Sweet Home 3D, a Sketchup Alternative with Great Community
Sweet Home 3D is an easy to use house interior design software in both 2D and 3D. People use it to draw floorplans, 2D interiors, simply playing by drag and drop items into canvas, or even make them 3D house. It can import home blueprint from scanned / photo image and export to pdf, png, svg and obj. Thanks to the format supports, it can work together with another software such as Inkscape and Blender. This article will show you how to install it on Ubuntu and a glimpse of what its purposes are for. Enjoy!

$ sudo apt install sweethome3d
First picture below shows Sweet Home 3D first running on Ubuntu. By default, it shows a menubar, a toolbar, and four different panels. Notice the about dialog showing at the bottom with version 6.2.
Second picture below shows File -> New from demo -> ‘New home from demo’ action, that is, opening a prebuilt home design created by the Sweet Home 3D community. There are many more designs available by clicking Find more demos at the bottom all created by the great community. With this, one can play with Sweet Home 3D easily and quickly without trying to figure out everything by themselves.
Third picture shows Sweet Home 3D capability of drawing a floorplan of a bedroom. Notice the right panel showing choices of items that can be drag and drop-ed into the floorplan. Notice also the dimensions (arrows with measurement number on them) surrounding the design. This is taken from choice number 3 of the demo namely Bedroom Apartement.
Fourth picture is the 3D version of the floorplan above. Notice the walls, bathroom, toilet, furniture like sofa, chair, bed, table, lamps, doors and windows are visible.

Sweet Home 3D document format is called SH3D (.sh3d).
On Ubuntu 20.04 Focal Fossa, Sweet Home 3D version is 6.2. Newer Ubuntu version will have newer software version as well.
